Branding The United States of America

South Carolina

Serving as a tribute of the heroic efforts put forth in defense of Sullivan’s Island, the flag of the state of South Carolina depicts twelve intertwined gold spears upon a blue background. The South Carolina troops bravery shown in the defeat of the then unconquered British fleet served as a symbol of the American Revolution, helping to unite the nation. Each of the first twelve states of the union is represented as a spear posing the question Quis Separabit?, or “Who Will Separate Us?”, which is the state motto of South Carolina.
